Hi. It’s me. I’m the project.

Hi Reader,

⏱️ 4-minute read | Inside this week's email:
The Confession: How I realized I am actually the project right now.
The 3 Lemon Squeezes 🍊: Why you don't need to monetize everything you love.
Microdose of Courage: Finding a smaller next step instead of a massive life plan.
Also inside: New solo episodes, trusted FitZen favorites, FitZen Philanthropies, and a quick listener feedback request.

THE CONFESSION

I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time lately trying to figure out what The FitZen Project is becoming.

  • What’s the podcast about?
  • Who is it for?
  • What am I selling?
  • Am I a coach?
  • Should I teach yoga again?
  • How do I make money from this thing?

And after recording this week’s episodes, I had a mildly horrifying realization:

I might be the high-functioning/ over-acheiving woman who needs to take her own fucking advice (per usual).

Here’s what happened.

I’ve been wanting to start teaching yoga again. I had this beautiful little plan in my head—morning classes, 8:30-ish, start my day teaching something I love and then move into my workday.

And then my actual job put a DAILY 9 AM call on my calendar.

I could not be more annoyed.

Immediately, my brain went into project-manager mode.

Okay. Move the class. Change the schedule. Figure out the business. What am I selling anyway? Should I coach? Do I even have a business? Did I waste all this time and money revamping the podcast if I don’t know what I’m eventually selling?

And then I heard myself.

Oh.

Hi. It’s me. I’m the project.

Maybe I don’t need to figure out the entire FitZen business model this week.

Maybe I don’t need to turn every thing I love into another thing I have to successfully manage.

Maybe I can make really fucking good podcasts.

Maybe I can find another time and teach one yoga class.

Maybe I can keep being a Project Executive—a career I have worked incredibly hard to build, find a lot of pride in, and LOVE the fullfillment it brings me—and also continue exploring this weird, wonderful thing I’m creating over here.

Maybe I don’t have to know what it becomes yet.

And THAT is uncomfortable for someone like me.

Because I love a plan.

I love a methodology.

Give me a terrible process, a wishful project plan and a desired outcome and I will make some magic happen, baby!

But there’s a difference between leading your life and trying to control its outcome.

And wouldn’t you know it…

That’s basically what I spent this week’s podcast talking about.

Funny how that shit works.

So if you’re also in a season where you’re desperately trying to figure out the entire plan, here’s what I’m practicing:

MY THE 3 LEMON SQUEEZES 🍊

  1. You don’t need to monetize every thing you love. Some things are allowed to give you energy before they give you income.
  2. Not knowing what something becomes doesn’t make it a waste. You can experiment. Gather information. Change direction. Try something small. That’s not failure. That’s literally how projects work.
  3. You might not need a bigger plan. You might need a smaller next step. One class. One episode. One conversation. One decision. And then see what you learn.

MY MICRODOSE OF COURAGE

  • I’m going to stop demanding that I know exactly what The FitZen Project becomes.

I’m going to keep making amazing episodes.

I’m going to find a way to teach some yoga.

And I’m going to pay attention so I can keep what's great, get rid of what's not serving YOU, and create enough space for something new.

My lessons learned this week is clarity doesn’t always come before the action. Sometimes we have to live our way into it.

If you’re trying to solve your entire life right now, maybe your Microdose of Courage is the same:

What is the smallest next step I can take without requiring myself to know where the whole thing ends?

I’ll meet you there.

With all the gratitude,

Rachel

Alignment is the new hustle.
You are your most important project.

P.S. Sometimes your next level isn't another certification or promotion.

Sometimes it's finally trusting yourself.

If that hits... let's talk.

Are you LOVING being a lil FitZy?! We just coined the term. I would love your feedback and here's how you can provide that (aside from replying directly to this email).

"Send me a text" option at the bottom of each episode is the BEST way to send a written review. Follow the prompts on your phone- directions are key.

To leave a review on Apple Podcasts, open the Podcasts app, search for The FitZen Project, and then tap on the show's main page to open it. Scroll down to the Ratings & Reviews section, and tap "Write a Review". You can then tap the stars to give a rating, write a title and your review in the text fields, and finally tap Send to post your review.

You cannot leave a written review on podcasts in the Spotify app, but you can leave a star rating and comment on single episodes! By opening the Spotify mobile app, finding The FitZen Project, tapping the three-dot menu on the podcast's page, selecting "Rate show," and then submitting your desired star rating after listening to at least 30 seconds of an episode. (5 stars would be EPIC!)

And So Be It.
